What is the best coffee maker?

August 18th, 2011 4 comments

Question by JEANNE H: What is the best coffee maker?
I can’t seem to get it right when purchasing a coffee maker. I just purchased a Capresse #455 10 cup digital coffee maker/burr grinder combo from Costco. It has a thermos and is supposed to stay hot for hours, but it doesn’t even stay hot for 1 hr., and I don’t even use the burr grinder (I have a Barista grinder which works just fine, so this is a feature that is not important to me). In the past I’ve bought Krups, Cuisinart, Braun, all of which tastes bitter. Please HELP me in choosing one.

Can anyone recommend a solid espresso/coffee maker?

Question by angelsig1: Can anyone recommend a solid espresso/coffee maker?
I own a Westbend combination espresso/coffee maker which has been used almost daily for the last 3 years. (I know, I’m suprised too considering its hardly high end) Its worked very well but at this point the poor machine is just worn out, and I’m looking to get a new one.
I used to be a barista and I enjoy tamping my own espresso shots. My roommates like a good pot of regular coffee in the morning. Thus my ideal combination machine would have a drip coffee function, manual espresso function (not automatic), and a steaming nozzle. Things like automatic shut off are great too.
My problem is there doesn’t seem to be a great amount of decent combination machines out there. I’m seeing alot of Deloughi and Krups combination models and they’re all getting HORRIBLE user reviews (breaking after a few months, leaking water, etc). While I can’t spend $ 1000 on a professional model, I’d like the model I buy to not break on me after 2-3 months. And due to lack of electrical outlets and counter space, Its not an option to buy a separate espresso machine and separate coffee maker. Please no recommendations for stovetop espresso machines; they’re adorable but I don’t have that kind of time in the mornings.
Thanks!

Is there an automatic coffee pot with stainless steel insides?

Question by DrDave822: Is there an automatic coffee pot with stainless steel insides?
Several members have written about how to get the plastic taste out of electric drip coffee makers. We’ve tried Krups, Cuisinart, Braun and others. They all have plastic water tanks and coffee grind holders, and use plastic tubes to carry hot water. Does anyone know of an electric model that uses stainless steel mechanicals to avoid getting plastic in the coffee?

Only percolators. You could use a glass decanter, like the French press.

What kind of coffee maker do you use? Why?

Question by host431: What kind of coffee maker do you use? Why?
With so many models the choices are endless. Some have grinders, others have timers. Is Mister Coffee better than Bunn, Hamilton Beach, Krups, or Cuisinart?

I use a Melita pour over coffee maker you put ground coffee beans into a paper cone filter in it and pour hot water over them which then drips into a coffee mug and makes a single cup of excellent coffee.

It’s cheap and makes better coffee than an expensive electric coffee maker. I also use a French press which does the same thing.

For parties or events where I want to make a lot of coffee at once very fast I’ll just use an electric percolator or an electric General Electric brand coffeemaker that I add water and coffee to, plug in, and turn on and they both make more than one cup of coffee.

I also have a stovetop espresso maker. It’s a Moka pot that screws together and you put water into with the coffee grinds above the water chamber and put it on the stove and the espresso bubbles up into the main chamber.

Which coffee maker makes the best tasting coffee?

August 16th, 2011 9 comments

Question by flyfisher: Which coffee maker makes the best tasting coffee?
My seester needs a new coffee maker, and I’m trying to help her find a good one. She wants it to make great tasting coffee. It should make 10-12 cups, she does like the single cup feature (but that’s not necessary). Another feature she likes is the ability to slow down the drip in order to save on coffee (like the old Krups ones did). Finally, she wants one with an insulated carafe. Thanks in advance for your input!!
I had a customer (he owned a coffee shop) a few years back that insisted to get great tasting coffee, the coffee had to be brewed at 212 degrees or something like that. He said that most coffee makers don’t get hot enough to bring out the best flavor. He mentioned that there was one brand that knew this and advertised it on the packaging box. Has anyone else heard about this?

Q&A: A good Dual Coffee/Espresso Maker?

August 16th, 2011 No comments

Question by dark_angel286473: A good Dual Coffee/Espresso Maker?
I own a Krups machine that is both a coffee maker and an espresso machine. It is finally starting to ‘kick the bucket’ and I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas on a replacement model. While I was OK with the Krups one, the espresso side of it wasn’t all that hot, literally. I’m not looking to spend more than $ 200 on both things. Do you know of a good coffee/espresso machine, or should I get seperate ones? If so, are there any brands or types recommended within that price range? Thank you!

What is the best way to clean an espresso maker?

August 15th, 2011 No comments

Question by Vahé: What is the best way to clean an espresso maker?
It says something in the owner’s manual about descaling. I haven’t done that. What does that do? I have used vinegar before. Does that help? My coffee starts to taste bad after a while of using. I use it pretty frequently (usually every day), but I haven’t for the past month because I’ve been broke and have been drinking instant coffee instead!

Anyway, it’s a krups duomo if that helps (it has the automatic drip coffee maker as well on it).

Vinegar will do the trick – or phosphoric acid dissolved in water.
I buy the latter ready-mixed.

Best Coffee Maker Under $50?

August 15th, 2011 No comments

Question by untitledblue: Best Coffee Maker Under ?
I have a “Krups Pro Aroma Filter Coffee Machine with Thermo Jug” but it doesn’t keep the coffee warm at all (the first cup isn’t even THAT warm). I was wondering if there is a better coffee maker out there that keeps coffee hot for at least 30 minutes and under $ 50-I’d prefer if it were cheaper, but whatever!

Any suggestions?

I have found that the coffee maker that has the best tasting coffee is one that does not have a pot. Check out this link: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/301796/hamilton_beach_brewstation_model_47114.html This is available at walmart, or hhtp://www.walmart.com for under $ 50.00

Delicious coffee EVERY time, easy to clean, and very affordable!

Good luck to you,
Kara

Q&A: Tips on making a good cup of coffee?

August 14th, 2011 3 comments

Question by doing the unstuck: Tips on making a good cup of coffee?
I have a small Krups 4 cup coffee maker and I need help with it.
I know how to make coffee in general, but I need to know one thing:
What should the ratio be for coffee if I am intending on making 4 cups?
I don’t desire it to be too strong, but strong enough that I don’t see the bottom of the mug when it’s full.

Can you give me any suggestions on the amount of coffee I should be using?
It would be much appreciated.
Thank You!
Oh, and I am using Folgers original (if that plays any major role).

It really depends on your taste. Also depends on how big your cup of coffee is. In general, it is about one teaspoon of coffee per one cup. Just try this out and see if it’s what you like. If not, then slowly adjust until you find what exactly you are looking for.

P.S. I also find that if you use tap water, it ruins the taste. I have one of those filter jugs. Believe me, the difference is well worth it!

Hope this helps,
MathStud
